I analysed (with Russets help) last nights S-H data and we made adjustments to the telescopes collimation from that. Once I got onto the sky the first priority was to get the NA2 guider instrument block. After this I took some S-H data and made corrections to the collimation, then another set of S-H data and make another itteration of corrections from the previous nights data. (actually I didn't get the new corrections read in the first trial and had to repeat it a 2nd time). The 2nd set of images showed the telescope needing a correction of N2: 5.9 and Bak: 4.3 (Russet said corrections of less than 10 were insignifcant). Then it was on to the one remaining essential task (I have other non-essential tasks but this was the last critical one to get up back on the sky), a good Pointing model. Russet said to take the time and get a good pointing model since APOLLO need very good telescope pointing. The commands from the pointing model program went thru to the tcc but the gcam doread command hung. I tried manually issueing the commands myself (after exiting the pointing model program) and it just hung without taking an exposure. I put a call into Fritz to look at the problem for me since it seemed to be beyond my computer expertise. We finally got the problem resolved and I started the large pointing model around 04:30. It found the first few stars very near the top edge of the field (not a good sign) and within a few stars it started failing to find stars. I called Russet and she did some adjustments to the tertiary to center the stars better (I think that is what she did). Anyway it was too late to get a large pointing model so we went with a smaller one to at least have something. Since tommorow is scheduled engineering I think we might want to do the larger pointing model (now that we have the snafu out, we think) as well as the correction for the Echelle that Russet has as a priority. My guess is about 2hrs sky time to do these 2 tasks (she also has a couple less high priority items which I can use the engineering time for as well. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFNVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 23:07 SPIcam 75(1443) 33 75 16.3/17.4 179 2 J 0.69 23:10 NA2gdr 0(29000) 31 76 16.1/17.4 186 3 R 0.70 00:59 S-H -15(1908) -12 67 17.1/17.2 216 2 none 1 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 17:01 67 50 2 1 (N) 325 Cloudy rain 18:01 56 52 18 192 (SSW) 293 Cloudy none 19:01 62 49 8 80 (E) 304 Mst.
