The night started with a few more clouds than the previous few nights, but generally very nice. Seeing was good during the first half. The echelle and echelle slitviewer both behaved well after some TLC over the weekend. When we switched back to the echelle after 02:00, the slitviewer unfortunately got itself into an odd state that I couldn't recover from despite multiple resets. I called for help, and while we were working on the problem the weather degraded; wind, dust, and humidity all rose, and seeing got very bad as a storm outflow passed over us. I adjusted fan configurations and took advantage of the warm telescope to stay open to the end of an exposure. While we were closed, there was another error with a readout of a ThAr spectrum, but once I convinced TUI/hub that there were no more active exposures ("echelle zap"), the next one went fine. No time was lost; we're fortunate the error didn't occur with a science exposure. This time. After the outflow passed, the humidity and wind dropped a bit, so we opened to get one more object. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFNVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- UW15 E I/S 02:10 02:36 Ecam software bug ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:40 Echelle -400(593) 24 70 20.3/23.3 132 7 ND3 0.90 22:20 NICFPS -300(1802) -53 57 18.9/20.7 104 8 H 0.76 22:22 NA2gdr 2288(39288) -53 56 18.9/20.7 101 8 R 0.90 02:08 Echelle -350(409) -90 57 16.3/17.4 81 19 Clear 1.35 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 83 32 9 244 (WSW) 601 ptly cldy none 17:01 77 29 6 259 (W) 522 ptly cldy none 18:01 77 29 7 264 (W) 494 ptly cldy none 19:01 76 26 8 208 (SSW) 482 ptly cldy none 20:01 71 22 3 232 (SW) 474 mstly clr none 21:01 68 30 12 128 (SE) 659 clear none 22:01 67 31 9 108 (ESE) 657 clear none 23:01 66 33 13 124 (SE) 792 clear none 00:01 65 40 14 132 (SE) 1222 clear none 01:01 65 39 11 129 (SE) 1147 clear none 02:01 62 40 13 83 (E) 1311 clear none 03:01 57 52 19 77 (ENE) 1760 clear humid 04:01 56 52 14 89 (E) 1727 clear humid 05:01 58 51 12 102 (ESE) 1595 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
