Seeing was excellent until the wind shifted just before midnight and we went from sub-arcsecond to 2+ arcsecond seeing conditions. We had several problems tonight but nothing that really lost any observing time. During first half Craig logged in remotely and watched me fight with the guider software. He made a few minor tweaks and then called the TUI guiding offlimits for the remainder of the night when we saw some instances of unexplained image jumps in the frames. Craig claimed it required careful investigation before being used again. Second half went smoothly and I got my first hands-on experience with the TUI DIS slitviewer. I plan to send several suggestions on to Russell/Craig/Fritz. Near the end of the night things got very interesting. TUI quit auto-ftp-ing images. Tron, the new TUI hub, decided to create a new subdirectory to write images to. During that switchover several pairs of wavecals was presumed 'lost'. Panic ensued. Okay, not really but there was mass confusion and hysteria. It was then discovered that the autoftp feature had bombed in combination with a new UT050701 subdirectory being created. In the end only one pair of wavecals looks to have been lost. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFNVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- PU06 N T/H --:-- --:-- Gcam controller crashed ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:45 nicfps -150(2063) 159 75 20.8/24.2 205 5 J 0.82 20:50 NA2gdr 1609(40709) 160 75 20.7/24.1 196 6 R+nd2 0.72 22:10 nicfps -125(2048) 220 53 21.3/22.0 219 9 J 0.85 22:12 NA2gdr 3192(40192) 220 52 21.3/22.0 214 10 R 0.68 00:05 nicfps -250(1912) 241 39 18.5/20.2 127 15 J 1.27 01:24 dis-slit -400(1178) 200 77 18.1/18.9 130 18 - 2.28 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 82 38 12 219 (SW) 645 prtly cldy none 17:01 79 35 10 250 (WSW) 594 prtly cldy none 18:01 79 36 11 261 (W) 652 prtly cldy none 19:01 76 36 9 246 (WSW) 618 prtly cldy none 20:01 72 36 6 187 (S) 720 prtly cldy none 21:01 70 35 5 224 (SW) 754 prtly cldy none 22:01 70 34 8 215 (SW) 751 prtly cldy none 23:01 70 33 8 255 (WSW) 762 clear none 00:01 65 38 15 136 (SE) 654 prtly cldy none 01:01 65 40 16 142 (SE) 660 prtly cldy none 02:01 64 43 15 124 (SE) 610 prtly cldy none 03:01 63 41 8 115 (ESE) 613 clear none 04:01 64 39 8 180 (S) 678 prtly cldy none 05:01 65 39 6 181 (S) 642 prtly cldy none 06:01 63 39 12 198 (SSW) 586 prtly cldy none 07:01 65 40 4 179 (S) 584 prtly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
