It completely clouded up by about 21:30 and the rain sensor went off around 22:10. It appeared to clear around 23:00 but by the time I opened (23:15) and got the telescope focused the clouds came back and made me nervous about being open, so I opted to play it safe and keep the mirror covers closed (although I left the building open). The clouds stayed and my 1st half observer gave up around midnight. I did the instrument swap around 00:20 and also closed the dome, just to be safe. Around 02:20 the clouds quickly moved out, although I had a hunch it could be a sucker hole. I decided to open and at least get DIS focused, the re-evaluate the conditions. I didn't get finished focusing before the clouds moved overhead again, as I suspected. Tom gave up around 03:20 as he wasn't going to have enough useful time and the clouds were still over polaris. Of course it started to clear out shortly afterwards. The clear sky gave way to the clouds again around 04:00. I did get a couple engineering tests done with the DIS slitviewer that Craig had requested (and manage to find a bug or two). John Barentine logged in remotely and I had him try running (taking some science for his UC04 program) while I played around with testing various things with the new TUI. It is much easier to test (and make fail) while you have an observer on the other end who has been donated time. We found a couple items and clouds really didn't allow much in the way of science, so I chalked all the time up to EN01 as that really was what it came down to. Tom would have got nothing useful with these clouds, for his program, but we were able to use the time for engineering and get some useful information even with the clouds. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFNVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 02:40 DISslit -300(1225) 46 73 16.5/17.4 143 14 none 1.7 03:36 DISslit -300(1184) 47 72 16.3/16.5 150 19 none 1.55 03:40 NA2gdr -2896(20103) 46 73 16.3/16.7 159 22 R 1.15 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 80 38 15 208 (SSW) 674 Pt.
