By the end of twilight it we had rain showers, they didn't last long but enough to get the concrete wet. I finally opened just a little before 22:00 when the threat of rain was gone. My 1st half observer tried using the new TUI and dis slitviewer tonight. She reported that she did not have the image displayed on her screen. I had her try a couple of simple things, but didn't want to spend much time since they needed to get on with science. She did say that the current button was depressed and that the text in the box to the right of it was displaying the correct image, just no image was displayed on her screen. Also when she started the exp time and bin boxes were blank and reported an error when she tried her first exposure (without any values in them). It worked once I had her set the exptime and bin manually, but still no display on her end (worked fine on mine and an updated install on my pc laptop). She was running both an old and new version of TUI (on two differnt machines) and I am not sure which she was using to actually run DIS, but she didn't have any problems with DIS once we got going. At 00:25 we had problems with the NA2 guider (from the New TUI). It gave me a warning which I didn't capture quick enough (they were running nicfps and it was scrolling lots of status lines). Basically what it thought was the current file got out of sync with what actually was the most recent image. I could take images thru the tcc (not sure if they would guide since the guidestar was really faint we locked onto), but the new slitview image didn't see them/copy them. The guider buttons were also all ghosted, except cancel, even though it wasn't guiding/exposing. I basically restarted the guider and all worked well again. No science time was lost since I had the observers hand guide. We switched over to NICFPS a little before 01:00 and I was focused by 01:10 and on science. No problems for 2nd half. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFNVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 22:11 DISslit -400(1224) 62 67 17.2/19.8 133 20 none 1.2 22:19 NA2gdr -3062(19937) 59 68 17.4/19.4 136 18 R 0.8 01:05 NICFPS -250(1707) -106 48 15.9/16.4 129 24 H 1.2 02:42 NICFPS -150(1753) -40 51 15.6/15.6 144 18 H 1.0 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 76 35 14 240 (WSW) 558 Pt.
