I focused the telescope around 20:40 with around 1 arc sec seeing and then also did a pointing correction, as the pointing was just a tad off from what I like. Storms were a brewing to our west and finally around 21:45 they were a bit too close for comfort anymore, so I closed. Rain and lightning seen over basin and over Alamogordo. Clouds moved out and I was again able to open at around 23:55. I closed back up at 00:50 (when the 1st half observer finished) due to threatening clouds again. Re-opened around 02:00. At around 03:35 The new guider stopped working. I was trying to increase the exposure time to 15 sec (clouds were moving thru the field). Somehow I managed to hose things and it wouldn't take any exposures (and got stuck telling me that it was guiding when it wasn't, I noticed that the image number was not updating). I tried starting it from the TCC, no dice (although I had the impression that my commands were just being queued, they were). I restarted the gcam software on the hub and after about a minute all those commands I sent thru the TCC went thru. Still no dice on the guide button becoming un-ghosted in the new guide software, but I could run the guider now from the TCC, which I did. No science time was lost due to the problem. Everything ran smoothly tonight (except for the guider problem, which is more part of debugging the new software. It ran like a charm otherwise). ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFNVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- UW04 O I/S 03:35 03:40 new guider software had problems, see log ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:40 Echelle 95(932) 57 69 18.7/20.0 163 14 ND2 0.98 00:03 Echelle -33(684) -93 63 16.1/16.7 148 26 ND3 1.24 02:11 DISslit -10(1465) 90 68 16.5/16.2 177 19 none 1.1 02:19 NA2gdr -3495(19504) 89 70 15.7/16.3 180 15 R 0.89 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 18:01 75 36 11 219 (SW) 711 Pt.
