By the time I had opened and was ready to focus there would not be enough time for the first half observer to get any useful data, so they gave it to the second half. After the instrument change and focus of the telescope I had some considerable troubles with the guider focusing stage (gmech). I gave up troubleshooting it and turned the scope over to the observer and then I continued to prod the guider while they setup on their first object. I was finally able to focus the stage but at an unusual value that put the stage near its end of travel. In the morning after unmounting the instrument I visually inspected the gmech and attempted several remaps. I could not see any motion on the linear stage and it took several remap commands to see the filter wheel even move and then it was obvious something was wrong because it did not properly rotate the filter wheel either one filter position or a portion of a filter position. The rest of the night went by smoothly. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFNVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- UC06 N T/H --:-- --:-- GMECH problem ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 00:54 nicfps 50(1728) 266 73 10.7/11.9 228 7 H 0.84 01:06 NA2gdr -20000(17000) 229 60 10.4/11.5 237 8 R 0.97 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 58 31 10 318 (NW) 679 cloudy none 17:01 62 31 12 266 (W) 723 cloudy none 18:01 56 31 12 311 (NW) 741 cloudy none 19:01 52 31 9 0 (N) 864 cloudy none 20:01 50 31 4 1 (N) 722 cloudy none 21:01 52 31 7 292 (WNW) 614 cloudy none 22:01 53 31 4 271 (W) 534 cloudy none 23:01 52 31 8 250 (WSW) 648 cloudy none 00:01 50 32 8 231 (SW) 423 prtly cldy none 01:01 51 32 9 229 (SW) 492 mstly cldy none 02:01 51 32 8 272 (W) 628 prtly cldy none 03:01 50 31 5 266 (W) 678 clear none 04:01 49 32 5 269 (W) 732 clear none 05:01 49 32 11 322 (NW) 779 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
