Seeing with nicfps was excellent (0.5 to 0.7 arcseconds) all night. At the beginning of the night the observer noted that the sky levels seemed odd to him. This quickly led into an investigation of the nicfps filter wheel positions. With Craig Loomis' help I was able to determine that filter wheel 1 was indeed off by one position. This would have likely been true last night as well. After about 20 minutes I was able to recalibrate the wheel position. Another problem we discovered at the beginning of the night was that the version of TUI in the NMSU observing room was quite old, sending large uncomputed offsets to the telescope when running the dither script. This was causing some very unpleasant results as seen in the telemetry data of the Azimuth Axis Drives. A newer version of the dither script was ftp'ed to NMSU and loaded by the observer which corrected the problem. Observing went smoothly the rest of the night. This later problem did not result in any loss of time. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFNVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NM09 N I/H 21:00 21:20 Filter wheel misregistation ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:37 nicfps 50(2022) 205 76 17.1/18.6 313 7 J 0.74 02:11 nicfps 100(1991) 34 68 17.1/16.4 299 2 Ks 0.65 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 72 29 11 269 (W) 827 clear none 17:01 73 29 9 263 (W) 636 clear none 18:01 69 27 4 290 (WNW) 510 clear none 19:01 70 28 8 266 (W) 418 clear none 20:01 63 25 7 291 (WNW) 343 clear none 21:01 63 24 6 309 (NW) 411 clear none 22:01 63 20 5 332 (NNW) 413 clear none 23:01 64 20 2 325 (NW) 302 clear none 00:01 63 20 3 338 (NNW) 345 clear none 01:01 64 20 0 233 (SW) 364 clear none 02:01 64 18 0 354 (N) 287 clear none 03:01 62 19 0 236 (SW) 291 clear none 04:01 62 21 0 195 (SSW) 328 clear none 05:01 62 21 0 297 (WNW) 316 clear none 06:01 62 22 0 244 (WSW) 330 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
