They looked possibly threatening at sunset, so I decided not to open. After midnight, a few of the brightest stars began to be visible through the clouds, but it was too little too late for the first-half program. I changed instruments and found that the clouds had thinned further, so I opened for second half. During second half, observations were frustrating as we dodged clouds, and I listed an hour of the time as unusable -- but some decent data were obtained anyway. During the cloudy time, in addition to our monthly gourmet night festivities, I investigated the behavior of the tertiary mirror during last week's pointing model. I didn't discover anything very useful, so we may have to look elsewhere for the source of pointing scatter. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFNVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 01:10 nicfps 90(1773) 136 36 8.4/8.9 284 17 FeII 0.91 01:14 NA2gdr 2746(39746) 137 36 8.4/8.9 293 13 R 1.05 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 53 17 20 226 (SW) 479 cloudy none 17:01 52 16 13 260 (W) 535 cloudy none 18:01 52 16 19 250 (WSW) 601 cloudy none 19:01 50 16 12 220 (SW) 547 cloudy none 20:01 49 14 11 250 (WSW) 546 cloudy none 21:01 49 13 2 293 (WNW) 530 cloudy none 22:01 49 12 6 267 (W) 498 cloudy none 23:01 49 13 6 267 (W) 466 mstly cldy none 00:01 48 11 9 297 (WNW) 565 mstly cldy none 01:01 47 9 9 267 (W) 610 ptly cldy none 02:01 46 12 11 275 (W) 522 ptly cldy none 03:01 45 14 7 270 (W) 561 ptly cldy none 04:01 44 18 6 267 (W) 566 ptly cldy none 05:01 43 19 7 262 (W) 564 ptly cldy none 06:01 41 22 6 246 (WSW) 547 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
