Although the observer wasn't able to get anything through the clouds, I went to some brighter stars to see the azimuth behavior for myself. I could see what had been described, but it was far more subtle than the altitude misbehavior that occurred in February. After watching the slitviewer and guider results for a while, I switched to the Shack-Hartmann to see what the star tracking looked like in video. I was unable to see anything unusual about the tracking, but I only tried one sky position. I did measure and update the collimation, since seeing was quite nice. Then I switched back to DIS and re-adjusted pointing to compensate for the collimation change. I thought the clouds looked a little thinner at that point, so I told the observer to give it another try, and he found that he was just able to get usable data. The clouds continued to thin until the sky was nicely clear by 05:30. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFNVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:51 Echelle -130(260) 153 76 7.9/9.8 251 17 nd1 1.03 21:46 dis-slit 19(1140) 201 74 8.2/8.0 255 14 - 0.88 21:49 NA2gdr -5112(27987) 204 74 8.1/8.0 260 16 R 0.7 01:47 DISslit 25(1097) 100 63 6.6/6.5 291 10 - 0.99 01:50 NA2gdr -3312(27687) 100 64 6.6/6.5 296 14 R 0.98 02:46 S-H -125(1631) 129 64 5.7/6.0 267 8 - very good ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 50 9 13 308 (NW) 733 cloudy none 17:01 50 13 8 266 (W) 861 cloudy none 18:01 52 12 11 264 (W) 874 cloudy none 19:01 47 11 14 279 (W) 864 cloudy none 20:01 47 11 15 251 (WSW) 876 cloudy none 21:01 47 13 10 263 (W) 1028 cloudy none 22:01 46 13 12 255 (WSW) 1028 cloudy none 23:01 45 14 11 286 (WNW) 882 cloudy none 00:01 44 8 13 287 (WNW) 959 mstly cldy none 01:01 45 9 13 285 (WNW) 993 mstly cldy none 02:01 44 9 11 283 (WNW) 1180 mstly cldy none 03:01 41 10 7 265 (W) 1092 ptly cldy none 04:01 43 10 9 288 (WNW) 1049 ptly cldy none 05:01 42 9 12 272 (W) 1194 mstly clr none 06:01 42 9 14 274 (W) 1217 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
