Gordon noticed a strange noise pattern in the first bias frame he took (I was moving the telescope at the time so maybe that had something to do with it?). It was not present in subsequent bias exposures. I opened the enclosure around 19:55 after the wind had died down a bit. The telescope didn't want to slew correctly in Az (getting position errors and it was moving too slowly). I called Craig, who advised me to call Jon D, who made a trip up here from Las Cruces to investigate/fix the problem. Things had worked fine during my checkout. Jon got up here about 22:30 and at 00:00 he declared the night a loss and would work on fixing the problem in the morning when he had more hands available to diagnose things. I notified both my observers. OK, it wasn't a cloudy night but I worked on web pages for the remainder of the night. I also topped off NIC-FPS at 23:00, as well as in the morning as usual. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFNVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- PU02 D T/H 20:39 22:39 Az drives failed UW03 D T/H 22:39 01:00 Az drives failed UW12 E T/H 01:00 05:22 Az drives failed ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 52 14 28 268 (W) 1319 Clear none 17:01 52 15 24 246 (WSW) 1480 Clear none 18:01 51 15 26 265 (W) 2759 Clear none 19:01 49 12 21 266 (W) 1516 Clear none 20:01 47 13 19 264 (W) 1432 Clear none 21:01 46 13 21 238 (WSW) 1469 Clear none 22:01 46 12 20 253 (WSW) 1329 Clear none 23:01 45 12 20 265 (W) 1267 Clear none 00:01 45 11 21 248 (WSW) 1377 Clear none 01:01 43 13 19 240 (WSW) 1259 Clear none 02:01 43 12 15 283 (WNW) 1467 Clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
