Toward 21:30 the sky cleared; radar returns within 50-100 miles kept us closed. When we did open just after 22:30, the sky was almost entirely clear except for some clouds with attendant lightning flashes on the distant northern horizon. Throughout dust was barely above the closure limit but not spiking, so we stayed open. Seeing, however, was on a rollercoaster ride, varying rapidly between 1-2.5 arcsec when we first opened; it later stabilized but was more often above 1.5 arcsec than below it, confirmed by the DIMM. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: W.Ketzeback Variable seeing continued much of the second half as well making chasing focus difficult at times. Dust levels hovered below the closure limits all night. No other problems. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFNVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 22:53 NA2gdr -6287(24712)181 79 8.2/9.3 124 20 R 1.13 22:53 DISslit -150(1022) 181 79 8.2/9.3 124 20 - 1.42 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 60 31 22 211 (SSW) 2166 MstlyCldy none 17:01 56 29 19 207 (SSW) 2112 MstlyCldy none 18:01 54 29 21 213 (SSW) 2046 MstlyCldy none 19:01 51 30 12 164 (SSE) 2236 MstlyCldy none 20:01 49 31 21 128 (SE) 2269 MstlyCldy none 21:01 48 32 22 138 (SE) 2160 PtlyCldy none 22:01 47 32 14 112 (ESE) 2000 MstlyClr none 23:01 46 32 17 122 (ESE) 221 Clear none 00:01 47 33 19 126 (SE) 2266 Clear none 01:01 46 32 17 131 (SE) 2133 Clear none 02:01 46 31 14 153 (SSE) 2137 Clear none 03:01 46 31 8 148 (SSE) 2014 Clear none 04:01 46 31 10 145 (SE) 1992 Clear none 05:01 47 31 9 171 (S) 2020 Clear none 06:01 47 29 4 99 (E) 2021 Clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
