As soon as we could open and focus it was discovered that the near-IR sky brightness was much higher than normal (by more than 50%). This caused the observer to adjust integration times a great deal. After a few hours it dropped back to normal levels however in the mean time we were troubled by clouds. The cloud cover disappeared near midnight and remainder photometric until around 0300 when choppy high altitude fast moving clouds returned for the remainder of the night. There were no problems second half. Seeing was less than desirable all night being moderate, 1.5 arcsec, to rather poor, greater than 2 arcsec in both optical and IR. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFNVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:01 nicfps 400(1675) 156 76 1.0/2.5 263 21 J 1.85 19:03 NA2gdr 1826(46826) 158 77 0.8/2.4 252 21 R 1.43 19:04 nicfps 400(1672) 158 77 0.8/2.4 252 21 J 1.47 19:44 nicfps 300(1528) 214 75 0.7/1.3 275 13 J 1.9 22:03 nicfps 0(1184) 227 54 -1.4/-0.9 27 10 J 1.36 00:14 dis-slit -25(610) 225 73 -3.1/-3.2 8 20 - 1.43 00:18 NA2gdr -4724(26275) 227 72 -3.1/-3.2 11 10 R 1.68 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 37 12 27 280 (W) 2128 mstly cldy dust 17:01 38 14 25 260 (W) 2880 mstly cldy dust 18:01 37 13 19 280 (W) 2361 mstly cldy dust 19:01 33 13 23 259 (W) 2342 mstly cldy dust 20:01 34 13 22 268 (W) 1685 mstly cldy none 21:01 32 1 6 318 (NW) 1463 mstly cldy none 22:01 30 0 9 33 (NNE) 494 mstly cldy none 23:01 28 -2 8 16 (NNE) 359 mstly cldy none 00:01 27 -1 16 24 (NNE) 405 mstly clr none 01:01 25 2 8 1 (N) 364 clear none 02:01 24 1 13 8 (N) 274 clear none 03:01 24 2 12 340 (NNW) 249 clear none 04:01 21 5 14 355 (N) 236 prtly cldy none 05:01 20 5 11 357 (N) 314 prtly cldy none 06:01 20 2 7 0 (N) 363 prtly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
