At change over the NA2 guider crashed hard and could not be pinged. Power cycled and restarted. The observer had not started their first exposure yet before I got it up and running. No downtime counted. Thin clouds covered the sky by 0130. 2nd half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Some clouds lurked around during second half, but they spent most of their time on the eastern horizon and didn't impede science. Seeing was quite good. We had one bad magnesensor error that wasn't discovered for a while, so it cost nearly 15 minutes of trying to identify the wrong field. The observer reported that his last few red spectra (standard stars) showed signs of being out of focus, but it was unclear whether this indicated a disagreement between spectrograph and slitviewer. I had done some focus adjustments shortly before the standard observations, but because the standards themselves were saturated I couldn't quite tell if focus was correct for the slitviewer -- clearly it wasn't correct for the instrument. Observing specialists should watch for focus anomalies in the coming weeks as temperatures change again, and observers should report any sign of doubled spectra at once. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFNVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- DD03 D T/H --:-- --:-- NA2gdr crashed, power cycled.
