We suspected this wouldn't last long, and sure enough the dome wasn't open more than 15 minutes before the clouds thickened again. But I was able to use the opportunity for some engineering work. I compared the focus of the dis slitviewer (which was recently moved) to the DIS instrument. There appears to be a real discrepancy between the two, so the slitviewer should be adjusted some more at the first opportunity. It's also notable that many of the star images were somewhat elongated in the altitude direction, regardless which side of focus I was on. I was not able to connect any of the elongated images to twitches on the altitude dataq telemetry. After the focus tests, we tried observing through the clouds, with little success for a while. Then, after 03:00, the clouds thinned out considerably until the sky was mostly clear. From there, everything went smoothly. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFNVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 00:35 dis-slit -25(796) 100 63 0.6/0.7 297 15 - 0.99 00:54 DIS(red) 75(880) 105 67 0.4/0.5 285 11 - 0.98 00:54 DIS(blue) 75(880) 105 67 0.4/0.6 275 9 - 1.16 01:12 DISslit 0(796) 110 70 0.3/0.4 291 12 - 1.08 01:26 NA2gdr -1733(29266) -31 58 0.4/0.4 287 9 R 0.95 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 36 27 13 268 (W) MstlyCldy none 17:01 35 23 18 276 (W) MstlyCldy none 18:01 34 21 17 267 (W) MstlyCldy none 19:01 33 21 15 269 (W) MstlyCldy none 20:01 34 22 16 282 (WNW) MstlyCldy none 21:01 34 22 13 305 (NW) MstlyCldy none 22:01 34 22 15 305 (NW) MstlyCldy none 23:01 34 21 12 310 (NW) MstlyCldy none 00:01 33 23 12 286 (WNW) MstlyCldy none 01:01 33 25 11 284 (WNW) MstlyCldy none 02:01 34 21 12 282 (WNW) mstly cldy none 03:01 33 23 12 293 (WNW) ptly cldy none 04:01 32 23 15 286 (WNW) ptly cldy none 05:01 32 24 14 273 (W) mstly clr none 06:01 32 25 9 282 (WNW) mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
