During checkout I discovered that nicfps in Fowler Sampling=1 produced all 0 values and in Fowler Sampling=0 all images were saturated. This had been seen before and usually corrects itself after a powercycle of the instrument controller and reboot of the ics. After I rebooted the ics however it could not properly connect to the NFS server. Several reboots later I finally got it straightened out and got normal looking images. I started to have aweful flashbacks of GRIM II, the ghost of Christmas Past. At instrument change time I noted that the lower left louver was closed when all the others were open. I made a note of the EncLouver status and mailed a report to the daystaff. The second half user gave up at 0430. I used the time to do the nonstandard grating change for tomorrow nights first half observations. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- DD04 N I/H --:-- --:-- Images had all saturated or zeros DD04 N I/S --:-- --:-- ICS could not connect to NFS DD06 D T/H --:-- --:-- Lower Left Louver closed DD04 N T/H --:-- --:-- Lower Left Louver closed ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:44 dis-slit -100(669) 117 84 5.8/7.1 359 4 - 1.39 00:06 nicfps 150(1247) 160 77 5.7/5.3 287 15 Ks 0.72 00:10 NA2gdr -4183(40916) 165 78 5.6/5.2 314 13 R+nd2 0.66 01:37 nicfps 105(1303) 286 41 5.4/5.2 313 14 Ks 1.32 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 43 18 0 324 (NW) 341 cloudy cirrus 17:01 43 15 3 12 (NNE) 79 cloudy cirrus 18:01 41 14 4 337 (NNW) 62 cloudy cirrus 19:01 43 13 6 335 (NNW) 70 cloudy cirrus 20:01 42 15 9 336 (NNW) 87 cloudy cirrus 21:01 42 15 8 324 (NW) 164 cloudy cirrus 22:01 42 16 9 291 (WNW) 257 cloudy cirrus 23:01 44 17 12 264 (W) 284 cloudy cirrus 00:01 42 17 15 304 (NW) 309 cloudy cirrus 01:01 42 16 15 319 (NW) 259 cloudy cirrus 02:01 42 16 15 316 (NW) 233 cloudy cirrus 03:01 40 16 13 326 (NW) 245 cloudy overcast 04:01 42 15 13 322 (NW) 212 cloudy overcast 05:01 41 15 10 349 (NNW) 279 cloudy overcast 06:01 42 15 22 327 (NNW) 206 cloudy overcast Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
