After a few hours the moon became visible on the cloudcam, so we gave it a try and were able to focus despite continued (thinner) high clouds. With the target low in the northeast, there was some image elongation in the altitude direction that didn't appear to be astigmatism and may have been attributable to tracking troubles, but it improved after a little while. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: B.Ketzeback Mostly cloudy second half. However the observer would not admit to me that they were not getting anything useful, even after I commented twice that the clouds had gotten pretty thick. Since there was no real threat of precipitation I let them continue. At 0500, when the observer commented that the cloud camera looked better than it had in the past two hours, I replied that it was because there were uniform overcast skies. They then conceded for the night. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:38 NICFPS 50(1129) 75 44 2.2/2.8 327 13 Ks 1.09 23:38 nicfps 160(1106) 122 71 3.1/1.7 358 7 Ks 0.88 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 39 12 17 317 (NW) 420 mstly cldy none 17:01 37 9 7 297 (WNW) 532 mstly cldy none 18:01 38 6 8 311 (NW) 360 mstly cldy none 19:01 37 6 9 294 (WNW) 737 mstly cldy none 20:01 37 17 10 315 (NW) 456 mstly cldy none 21:01 36 15 2 287 (WNW) 732 ptly cldy none 22:01 35 12 6 338 (NNW) 835 ptly cldy none 23:01 37 3 12 348 (NNW) 604 ptly cldy none 00:01 38 1 12 347 (NNW) 541 ptly cldy none 01:01 37 1 10 355 (N) 545 mstly cldy none 02:01 37 1 10 348 (NNW) 651 ptly cldy none 03:01 38 -1 7 21 (NNE) 330 cloudy none 04:01 38 -2 12 6 (N) 321 cloudy none 05:01 38 -5 12 11 (N) 228 cloudy none 06:01 38 -3 9 359 (N) 197 cloudy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
