One exposure would show stars, the next nothing, the next the stars were back again. It only occurred at the very start of the night (during my checkout, which I though was just a fluke) and the very start of the first half program. The problem seemed to go away shortly thereafter. I aborted a bias exposure with TUI around 02:55 and hung DIS. After several minutes of trying various DIS command incantations I called Russet. We tried a couple with no success and then she gave me a command which"zapped" DIS and fixed the problem. The 2nd half program targets all set around 3AM so they gave the rest of their time to the PU06 program, which was clouded out the night before. No problems otherwise. A VERY cold night at APO!!! ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- UW09 D I/S 02:55 03:08 DIS aborted ungracefully ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:24 DISslit -475(-216) 34 46 -9.7/-8.9 334 13 none 2.7 18:21 DISslit -350(-106) 54 28 -10.5/-8.9 351 17 none 2.6 00:00 DISslit -25(100) 304 42 -12.4/-10.4 328 9 none 2.7 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 17 -7 14 300 (WNW) 2519 Clear windy 17:01 15 -9 10 319 (NW) 1361 Clear none 18:01 14 -8 6 300 (WNW) 958 Clear none 19:01 12 -3 12 352 (N) 796 Clear none 20:01 10 0 3 294 (WNW) 846 Clear none 21:01 9 1 13 346 (NNW) 785 Clear none 22:01 10 1 10 14 (NNE) 612 Clear none 23:01 10 0 2 37 (NE) 539 Clear none 00:01 10 0 10 322 (NW) 494 Clear none 01:01 10 0 12 2 (N) 446 Clear none 02:01 11 -1 21 352 (N) 409 Clear none 03:01 11 -1 3 43 (NE) 321 Clear none 04:01 10 -1 16 12 (NNE) 428 Clear none 05:01 10 -2 8 3 (N) 338 Clear none 06:01 10 -3 13 331 (NNW) 2167 Clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
