A few high clouds wandered by in the early evening, but mostly stayed out of our viewing areas. After 23:00, the north wind shifted to the southeast and strengthened sharply, and our seeing degraded. The CorMASS observations, though still very challenging, were much more successful thanks to the presence of one of the instrument scientists. We got some good observations of Mars by dint of closing the dome shutter most of the way to reduce the light coming in. Shortly after we switched to the echelle, the wind gusted over the limit. I watched for a little until it was clear that the wind was still on the increase, then I closed. Wind dropped again after a few hours, but humidity was on the rise. We got some more observations in during the gap between high wind and high humidity, but because of the awful seeing it took a long time to get any science, even on bright targets. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 43 12 2 358 (N) 1011 mstly clr none 17:01 44 -4 8 28 (NNE) 143 mstly clr none 18:01 43 -3 12 14 (NNE) 281 mstly clr none 19:01 43 -2 15 38 (NE) 218 mstly clr none 20:01 42 0 14 40 (NE) 121 clear none 21:01 41 6 14 53 (NE) 145 clear none 22:01 40 4 16 63 (ENE) 352 clear none 23:01 37 13 22 73 (ENE) 1055 clear none 00:01 30 14 29 70 (ENE) 1669 clear none 01:01 25 12 41 80 (E) 2211 clear wind 02:01 22 12 29 81 (E) 1582 clear wind 03:01 21 12 23 80 (E) 1388 clear none 04:01 20 12 20 85 (E) 1243 clear none 05:01 19 14 19 82 (E) 1122 clear humidity Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
