It was pretty frustrating work. We made excellent progress for nearly an hour changing and testing one particular parameter -- and getting noticeable improvement in tracking behavior -- only to realize that a repeated command syntax error meant that we hadn't actually changed anything at all. And yet the tracking behavior really was much improved. Tests showed reasonable but not perfect tracking behavior in most parts of the sky, including high transits. Observers and observing specialists should still keep an eye out for image elongation that does not seem to be focus-related. We switched to APOLLO work a little later than scheduled and enjoyed another few hours of frustration. No lunar returns, despite a last-minute fix to a GPS clock that might have caused the lack of returns on Monday. The lunar video showed very good seeing, with poorish tracking while the moon was rising but remarkably good tracking near transit. Second half was spent on more tracking tests and the CorMASS slitviewer flip-mirror. There, at last, definite progress was made, and we were even able to do some science with CorMASS at the end of the night. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 42 10 1 265 (W) 1068 clear none 17:01 40 3 2 257 (WSW) 405 clear none 18:01 37 -7 8 250 (WSW) 65 clear none 19:01 38 10 5 254 (WSW) 423 clear none 20:01 38 12 3 201 (SSW) 407 clear none 21:01 38 20 4 237 (WSW) 655 clear none 22:01 37 22 4 262 (W) 665 clear none 23:01 36 22 6 269 (W) 1372 clear none 00:01 37 22 4 262 (W) 1828 clear none 01:01 38 20 6 265 (W) 1472 clear none 02:01 38 20 4 266 (W) 1155 clear none 03:01 40 15 6 275 (W) 450 clear none 04:01 37 21 1 241 (WSW) 1104 clear none 05:01 38 19 8 215 (SW) 995 clear none 06:01 39 18 5 251 (WSW) 740 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
