Dembicky Started cooling (fans) around 16:15 and opened the enclosure around 17:00. I started a pointing correction for George at 18:10 and echpoint gave me an error. I called Russet and she had me run echtilt instead (issuing a rot 0 mount beforehand to fix a bug). It looked like things were going smoothly but when I input the corrections and checked pointing again, it didn't move the star to the slit. I ran the echtilt again on the new image and it just compounded problems (now I couldn't find a star at all!). After several failed attemts (including reverting back to the original parameter file!) I wasn't having much success finding the correction star. Just to see, I ran echpoint and voila! it slewed and found the corrections star and then gave me the correct offsets (So echpoint DOES work but you must issue a rot 0 mount before using it). All in all it took about 40 mins of time for this excercise but the pointing was spot on after that. We saw a lot of image jumping in the Az direction. I didn't see anything obvious on the Dataq as to it originating in the motors and we were facing opposite the direction of the wind. (Az/Alt:-117/48). The Dataq Motor current had a very long (several seconds) oscillation (nothing high freq) but nothing that horrible in amplitude. I ran the slitviewer in man guide mode and the oscillations persisted so it appears to be a motor problem and not something the guider was doing. When George slewed to his next object the period of the osciallation changed to a much shorter period (order of 1-2 sec now) The oscillations returned (long period oscillation on DATAQ) at Az/Alt:171/49 but not as severe as before. During 2nd half a spurious slew command (I believe from TUI DIS slitviewer) that moved the telescope in Az. I had the observer reslew and it fixed the problem. No significant time was lost. PR was submitted. No other problems besides the above two. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- UW13 D T/S 03:16 03:20 Unexpected guide (large) offset sent from TUI. ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:45 Echelle 105(107) -19 42 5.1/5.4 19 19 clear 0.99 18:52 Echelle 70(-20) -116 61 5.1/4.9 13 16 ND2 0.9 00:07 DISslit 0(672) -120 69 4.8/4.5 25 22 none 1.2 00:15 NA2gdr -8585(20414) -120 68 5.1/4.5 27 24 R 1.1 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 42 22 12 1 (N) 330 Clear none 17:01 42 17 15 352 (N) 247 Clear none 18:01 41 18 23 26 (NNE) 274 Clear none 19:01 41 20 20 29 (NNE) 286 Clear none 20:01 42 19 11 29 (NNE) 381 Clear none 21:01 42 19 15 3 (N) 289 Clear none 22:01 42 17 11 19 (NNE) 313 Clear none 23:01 41 21 15 4 (N) 344 Clear none 00:01 41 18 20 20 (NNE) 356 Lt.
