After watching the weather for a while and comparing the feel of the air at ground level and on the dome catwalk, I decided to trust our dewpoint sensor and stick with the normal 2 deg limit. I decided to open at least as long as the optics remained warm. At the same time, the dewpoint dropped a little bit, so we remained open even when the telescope cooled. Skies were clear, humidity was fairly good and quite stable, and the observer was satisfied with DIS as a tool for somewhat rapid photometry. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: J. Dembicky DISslit stopped once, stopped exposure and started another from APO account fixed the problem. No problems otherwise. NIC-FPS vacuum was reading bad (2.2e-5 torr). I am sure Fred H and John B. are aware but thought it should be mentioned in case they weren't ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:31 DISslit 50(1043) 195 56 8.8/11.1 257 3 - 1.1 01:07 DISslit -25(856) -13 56 8.3/8.6 272 6 R 1.3 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 51 46 1 202 (SSW) mstly clr none 17:01 53 47 4 269 (W) mstly clr none 18:01 49 45 2 256 (WSW) mstly clr none 19:01 48 41 1 284 (WNW) clear none 20:01 47 42 2 275 (W) clear none 21:01 47 40 2 273 (W) clear none 22:01 47 40 2 239 (WSW) clear none 23:01 47 40 8 270 (W) clear none 00:01 48 40 9 296 (WNW) clear none 01:01 47 40 6 288 (WNW) clear none 02:01 47 40 0 334 (NNW) clear none 03:01 47 40 4 322 (NW) clear none 04:01 48 37 4 305 (NW) clear none 05:01 47 39 8 334 (NNW) clear none 06:01 48 41 5 356 (N) clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
