I occupied myself by mining various logs in pursuit of three observer information requests and two instrument-health questions. No partridge or pear tree, but plenty of fresh apples. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: B.Ketzeback Humidity started to drop around 2:30. I opened the cloud camera and while I was waiting for it to finish initializing, I did a safety walk around and test slews. We opened at 03:00. The first significant laser returns from the moon were seen at 03:55 under poor seeing conditions and moderate to strong winds. Weaker than expected but repeatable measurements were made off the Apollo 15 and Apollo 11 retro-reflectors tonight. Tom hopes to peak the returns over the next few nights by tweaking various parts of the system. Congratulations to Tom Murphy and his collaborators on achieving this significant milestone. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 59 45 16 231 (SW) ptly cldy none 17:01 58 47 20 228 (SW) mstly cldy none 18:01 54 45 20 215 (SW) mstly cldy none 19:01 52 46 16 206 (SSW) cloudy rain 20:01 50 49 23 211 (SSW) cloudy rain 21:01 50 48 19 215 (SW) cloudy rain 22:01 49 49 19 215 (SW) cloudy hail 23:01 49 49 21 231 (SW) cloudy fog 00:01 48 46 20 227 (SW) cloudy none 01:01 47 45 19 231 (SW) mstly cldy none 02:01 46 44 17 237 (WSW) mstly cldy none 03:01 46 39 20 221 (SW) mstly clr none 04:01 47 37 19 205 (SSW) clear none 05:01 45 37 18 237 (WSW) clear none 06:01 42 38 11 265 (W) clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
