As the evening progressed, lower and thicker clouds began to take over. For a while, we were unable to get any data at all, but there was no immediate threat. We switched to the echelle (had to focus on Regulus!) and managed to get a little data there, then switched back to the main program when the clouds thinned slightly after 03:00. We had one bad altitude magnesensor crossing which occurred during tracking and ruined a 20m exposure (the jump was too big for the guider to recover). No other serious problems aside from the weather, but there was a minor difficulty with control of the cooling fans. We also lost one of the echelle calibration images that disappeared into the ether somewhere between the ICC and the MC; although alarming, this cost us no time. Craig was unable to find the cause of the problem, so we'll have to be alert for possible repeats. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- UC01 F T/H 05:29 05:51 alt magnesensor err while exposing ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:56 SPIcam 350(1345) 95 56 0.3/0.6 298 11 z 0.73 17:58 NA2gdr -354(36646) 96 56 0.1/0.6 275 13 R 0.92 18:58 gfp 100(1019) 170 73 0.0/-0.1 262 7 5632 0.97 19:01 NA2gdr 1994(34994) 172 73 0.1/-0.1 265 8 R 0.73 02:03 Echelle 4(-13) 145 65 0.2/-0.1 210 22 Clear 1.87 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 35 14 2 288 (WNW) ptly cldy none 17:01 33 19 9 263 (W) ptly cldy none 18:01 32 24 11 268 (W) ptly cldy none 19:01 32 21 7 260 (W) ptly cldy none 20:01 32 19 14 268 (W) ptly cldy none 21:01 32 20 13 234 (SW) ptly cldy none 22:01 33 21 19 234 (SW) ptly cldy none 23:01 33 21 16 228 (SW) mstly cldy none 00:01 33 21 17 205 (SSW) cloudy none 01:01 33 21 22 212 (SSW) cloudy none 02:01 32 21 20 217 (SW) mstly cldy none 03:01 33 22 15 228 (SW) ptly cldy none 04:01 32 24 17 238 (WSW) ptly cldy none 05:01 33 26 19 246 (WSW) ptly cldy none 06:01 33 25 14 255 (WSW) ptly cldy none 07:01 33 25 16 231 (SW) ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
