George did his Echelle lamps during the first half but since we never opened he didn't get any useful data. Tom took his cal lamps with DIS at the start of the 2nd half while we waited for the clouds to leave. I finally opened the enclosure around 02:10 and started the pointing adjustments left over from last nights engineering run. I started with the Echelle and found the star only slightly offcenter. Corrections from echpoint were: -19 TertXTiltCoef -159 TertYTiltCoef I reran echpoint to check the offsets (to make sure they were in the correct direction. Run 2 results were: -8 TertXTiltCoef -64 TertYTiltCoef I adjusted the variables (Y only for the 2nd run) and the third run thru gave the following: -8 TertXTiltCoef -4 TertYTiltCoef As a sidenote, for the obs specs, edit the IP_NA1.DAT file on the tycho terminal NOT jeppe. The keymapping for the delete key doesn't work (at least not on my setup). There probably was some ctrl sequence that does the delete, but I didn't want to take the time to go find it on the internet. They Tycho terminal works fine for editing the file. I then switched over to the NA2 port, focused the guider (and DISslit). Results were: 16 TertXTiltCoef 229 TertYTiltCoef Round 2 gave the following results: 7 TertXTiltCoef 9 TertYTiltCoef I then turned the telescope over to Tom, just as the clouds started to re-appear in our sky. It was no go for anything faint, so Tom decided to go after some brighter, 5th magnitude, stars with the sky conditions as they were. Clouds moved out again around 04:15. I also tweaked the focus while Tom was collecting photons. Seeing was around 1 arc sec. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 02:20 Echelle -240(427) 70 60 14.8/15.6 147 17 ND2 1.20 02:47 DISslit -100(1345) 66 64 15.3/15.3 179 16 none 1.26 02:51 NA2gdr -1897(45102) 64 65 15.2/15.3 176 15 R 1.16 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 72 48 8 243 (WSW) 4076 Pt.
