By the time the Observer arrived on campus I had the telescope opened and focused however there was internet problems that prevented Remark from connecting at UW. Having lost our phones due to an equipment failure earlier in the evening, I did service observing for George via email exchanges. As the echelle was reading out the second science exposure of the evening the site fire alarm jolted me out of my seat. Being overly paranoid at the time about weather I thought it was the rain sensor alarm and rapidly scurried to close up. By the time the mirror covers were closed my brain registered that it wasnt the rain sensor but a fire alarm. By this time it was too late and the air raid sirens sounded over at Sunspot, waking the entire community and scrambling the Volunteer Fire Department. The fire alarm was a non clearing, not used zone. The Sloanies did a walk through of the dorms for me as I reopened, finding nothing wrong. Skies second half were largely variable with several excursions near closure conditions. The cloud camera showed cloud patterns at three different altitudes moving in three different directions. The weather was quite unpredictable. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 01:58 Echelle -153(353) 93 73 11.1/11.1 61 17 nd2 1.56 04:03 Echelle -10(462) 305 73 11.3/10.4 53 11 clear 1.42 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 62 42 8 176 (S) 377 cloudy none 17:01 68 41 16 232 (SW) 365 cloudy none, wind 18:01 69 41 15 228 (SW) 269 cloudy rain, lightning 19:01 55 41 11 126 (SE) 348 cloudy rain, lightning 20:01 49 44 12 62 (ENE) 441 cloudy lighting 21:01 46 41 16 76 (ENE) 487 cloudy none 22:01 45 42 23 72 (ENE) 327 cloudy none 23:01 47 39 21 75 (ENE) 150 cloudy none 00:01 48 39 17 73 (ENE) 176 cloudy none 01:01 53 35 10 36 (NE) 216 cloudy none 02:01 53 35 16 64 (ENE) 161 prtly cldy none 03:01 50 37 19 70 (ENE) 136 prtly cldy none 04:01 53 34 11 46 (NE) 166 cloudy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
