The winds started picking up around 19:00 and I looked out over the basin and could see dust down below. I opted to close the louvers and turn off the ventalation fans (and turn the pressurization fans back on) in the event that that dust was headed our way. Around 19:45 the dust levels were indeed on the rise, this prevented us from opening at sunset. The dust levels dropped around 21:50 to acceptable levels (and seemed stable) that I decided to open. I focused the telescope (seeing 1.2 arc sec) and handed the telescope over to the observers at 22:15 I had some problems with Remark connecting correctly tonight. Since both of my observers were using TUI this was not a problem. Remark connected fine but when I went to change my priority it would not let me do it. It also did not update the windows to the current telescope position, etc. The problem seemed to clear itself with by rebooting the Macintosh twice. No problems otherwise. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 22:05 SPIcam 75(1613) -42 65 12.3/14.1 289 20 r' 1.2 22:12 NA2gdr 2411(51411) -45 64 12.6/13.8 279 16 R 1.1 00:05 SPIcam 25(1646) -135 29 12.1/12.3 275 13 r' 1.2 01:20 DISslit -25(1369) -120 39 11.6/11.8 290 13 none 1.3 01:21 NA2gdr -4877(42122) -121 39 11.7/11.9 290 19 clear 1.2 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 64 17 26 250 (WSW) 2981 Clear none 17:01 63 16 27 247 (WSW) 2561 Clear none 18:01 62 14 27 260 (W) 1962 Clear none 19:01 61 12 24 262 (W) 1661 Clear none 20:01 57 9 20 280 (W) 3808 Clear Dust 21:01 54 7 24 291 (WNW) 4170 Clear Dust 22:01 53 6 12 267 (W) 2226 Clear none 23:01 54 6 14 280 (W) 2142 Clear none 00:01 54 6 12 290 (WNW) 1647 Clear none 01:01 53 6 9 278 (W) 1513 Clear none 02:01 52 6 18 301 (WNW) 1412 Clear none 03:01 51 4 17 279 (W) 1606 Clear none 04:01 50 4 14 290 (WNW) 1541 Clear none 05:01 50 5 18 294 (WNW) 1471 Clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
