Craig looked into the problem and explained this was just a risk observers would have to take operating from home due to the nature of the internet configuration that we have with NMSU. To quote Craig, "NMSU has taken the trouble of making our Internet2 link independent of their messy campus network, but the only way to use the better link is to be on a college network. DSL links from home don't qualify." In this particular occasion due to a problem on the NMSU network they were rerouting all non Internet2 traffic off campus and the observer was affected by a much slower, and almost unusable, connection. To exagerate, instead of the packets travelling once across the country it took several trips around the world between Chicago-Land and APO. Second half went smoothly. At 0330 the wind shifted suddenly from the east and dust levels became elevated enough that I had to reconfigure fans and seeing became so bad I had to give up on guiding with the na2 guider telling the observer to adjust as necessary watching the slitviewer ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:06 dis-slit -110(1181) 162 77 9.9/12.2 279 12 - 0.96 21:10 NA2gdr -3041(43958)165 77 9.9/12.0 282 10 R 1.1 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 60 14 14 263 (W) 827 clear none 17:01 56 12 13 266 (W) 887 clear none 18:01 56 10 8 283 (WNW) 878 clear none 19:01 55 12 7 282 (WNW) 1127 clear none 20:01 50 12 7 298 (WNW) 1213 clear none 21:01 50 12 7 269 (W) 1385 clear none 22:01 50 11 7 271 (W) 1387 clear none 23:01 49 10 5 184 (S) 1436 clear none 00:01 50 4 2 182 (S) 1524 clear none 01:01 50 7 0 308 (NW) 1512 clear none 02:01 44 15 9 59 (ENE) 1633 clear none 03:01 42 18 10 59 (ENE) 1872 clear dust 04:01 43 16 12 38 (NE) 1947 clear none 05:01 44 8 8 352 (N) 1620 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
