We opened at 18:30 after finishing some DIS cals with the dome dark. Clouds were reasonably thin until around 22:00 when some thicker waves passed over and regional radar showed returns within about 50 miles. I decided to close at that point. We opened about 90 minutes later as the precip threat diminished. Don noticed an apparent shift on the DIS chip of the imaged rectangle of sky in tonight's imaging-mode files compared with those taken last Thursday. The cause seems to be a probable failure in the repeatability of turret moves (see PR 2004037). The problem did not compromise the quality of the data. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Second half had iffy weather. The threat of rain diminished by midnight, but clouds and humidity closed us down for a little while. Seeing was very good and everything worked well (except for the guider -- still temperamental). ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:08 DISslit 0(1221) 151 81 7.4/10.6 261 5 - 0.82 19:10 NA2gdr -2162(44837)155 81 7.4/10.5 243 6 R 0.97 00:40 SPIcam 10(1243) -11557 6.4/6.4 180 12 i' 0.79 00:42 NA2gdr 554(49554) -11457 6.2/6.4 179 12 R 0.90 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 54 25 2 242 (WSW) 647 PtlyCldy none 17:01 52 25 9 256 (WSW) 753 PtlyCldy none 18:01 50 25 6 243 (WSW) 799 PtlyCldy none 19:01 47 25 6 256 (WSW) 791 PtlyCldy none 20:01 45 26 5 191 (S) 906 PtlyCldy none 21:01 47 27 8 199 (SSW) 843 PtlyCldy none 22:01 46 29 10 205 (SSW) 724 PtlyCldy none 23:01 44 32 9 177 (S) 849 PtlyCldy none 00:01 44 34 5 180 (S) 707 PtlyCldy none 01:01 43 33 14 182 (S) 609 ptly cldy none 02:01 41 35 13 183 (S) 817 mstly cldy none 03:01 43 33 12 210 (SSW) 796 mstly cldy none 04:01 42 33 7 269 (W) 1842 ptly cldy none 05:01 43 31 9 303 (WNW) 2364 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
