Within 45 minutes, wind gusts were near 45 MPH and the dust counts shot up over the closure limit, so I buttoned up the enclosure. Radar indicated severe, isolated thunderstorms to our east in the region around Midland-Odessa. By sunset, the air temperature was dropping and humidity rising. Satellite images showed what looked very much like a classical monsoon pattern from north-central Mexico on up into AZ-NM. The remainder of first half was mostly cloudy with high wind and rising humidity. We did not open. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Second half had high dust, high winds, and/or high humidity until about 03:30. When conditions improved, the clouds were still a bit too thick for Fabry-Perot work. We did not open until twilight, when the observers grabbed a few flats. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 59 16 12 106 (ESE) MstlyCldy none 17:01 57 17 13 79 (ENE) MstlyCldy none 18:01 52 24 19 76 (ENE) MstlyCldy none 19:01 48 28 29 72 (ENE) MstlyCldy none 20:01 44 27 33 68 (ENE) MstlyCldy none 21:01 42 26 35 68 (ENE) MstlyCldy none 22:01 41 28 33 71 (ENE) MstlyCldy none 23:01 40 30 18 71 (ENE) MstlyCldy none 00:01 38 30 28 70 (ENE) MstlyCldy none 01:01 36 28 32 75 (ENE) MstlyCldy none 02:01 38 35 20 82 (E) ptly cldy none 03:01 37 35 11 109 (ESE) ptly cldy none 04:01 41 32 18 113 (ESE) ptly cldy none 05:01 40 30 7 79 (ENE) ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
