First half was uneventful; started out somewhat cloudy, but the clouds evaporated an hour or two after sunset and the remainder was largely clear. Seeing was excellent early on, with values as low as 0.75 arcsec FWHM measured in R, but later the winds turned toward the north and seeing degraded. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Second half was very peaceful. A few very thin clouds lurked around the horizon but avoided us for the most part. Increasing easterly winds apparently had some effect on seeing, but it was hard to be sure since we spent a lot of time at >2 airmasses and therefore were grateful anytime the seeing dropped below 2 arcsec. Everything worked perfectly. I did a moderate amount of focus tweaking, but the values for both instrument and guider hovered generally around the numbers in the log below. In the morning, the observer ran twilight flats until shortly before sunrise. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:14 gfp -50(1427) -86 54 10.8/11.7 285 7 R 0.76 19:19 NA2gdr -4043(46956)-85 53 10.8/11.6 283 7 R 0.79 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 61 16 8 254 (WSW) MstlyCldy none 17:01 55 13 8 268 (W) MstlyCldy none 18:01 52 10 3 269 (W) MstlyCldy none 19:01 52 9 7 299 (WNW) PtlyCldy none 20:01 52 10 3 270 (W) PtlyCldy none 21:01 52 11 3 262 (W) MstlyClr none 22:01 52 11 5 268 (W) MstlyClr none 23:01 52 11 2 325 (NW) Clear none 00:01 49 10 4 340 (NNW) Clear none 01:01 48 11 6 352 (N) clear none 02:01 48 12 9 14 (NNE) clear none 03:01 52 8 11 60 (ENE) clear none 04:01 51 9 10 77 (ENE) mstly clr none 05:01 51 9 11 80 (E) mstly clr none 06:01 51 9 8 76 (ENE) mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
