There was only one trouble spot: Just after 22:30, both Oliver and I noted consecutive DIS slitviewer images in which each of the stars was doubled. A look at the TUI focal plane diagram (thanks, Russell!!!) revealed the offending direction to be altitude. A magnasensor check then turned up two bad fiducial crossings. Slew up, slew down, slew back to the observer's object... problem solved. Around 03:00 the winds shifted toward the northeast and our seeing degraded from subarcsecond to around 1.4 arcsec. The rest of the night was clear and largely calm. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- UW02 D T/H 22:32 22:40 Bad alt magnasensor crossing ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:44 dis-slit 0(1243) 185 78 9.1/11.1 267 11 - 0.78 18:45 NA2gdr 0(47000) 187 78 9.1/11.0 268 9 R 0.81 03:35 DISslit 25(1295) 136 33 8.2/8.3 357 5 - 1.39 03:38 NA2gdr -359(46640) 137 34 8.3/8.3 1 9 R 1.32 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 56 15 16 254 (WSW) Clear none 17:01 56 15 14 261 (W) Clear none 18:01 50 11 14 282 (WNW) Clear none 19:01 48 8 10 263 (W) Clear none 20:01 49 15 13 256 (WSW) Clear none 21:01 47 14 18 248 (WSW) Clear none 22:01 47 14 14 256 (WSW) Clear none 23:01 48 12 8 266 (W) Clear none 00:01 49 12 11 272 (W) Clear none 01:01 48 11 9 313 (NW) Clear none 02:01 48 8 14 345 (NNW) Clear none 03:01 48 9 8 351 (N) Clear none 04:01 47 8 10 32 (NNE) Clear none 05:01 46 10 16 29 (NNE) Clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
