We were initially open while the winds stayed just below the closure limit. Closed at 19:25 when the wind gusted above 40 MPH and the rain sensor tripped, ostensibly due to blowing snow. Reopened just before 22:00 although peak wind gusts remained at 30 MPH or higher. We watched the wind closely but it did not force us to close again for the remainder of the half. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan More high winds again for a few hours after midnight. Then some very nice photometric skies with so-so seeing. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:50 gfp 100(1272) 119 45 3.5/3.6 29 16 6563 1.47 19:05 NA2gdr -2654(35346)123 48 3.7/3.4 22 25 R 1.14 23:04 gfp 0(1035) 155 81 3.4/2.9 38 20 6563 0.76 23:09 NA2gdr -5898(34201)161 81 3.3/2.8 20 23 R 0.74 03:17 gfp 75(1160) 123 48 4.4/2.2 34 23 8330 0.99 03:21 NA2gdr * -5807(32192)124 48 4.4/2.2 29 23 clear 1.30 * Instrument zeropoint changed after this measurement ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 40 22 18 33 (NNE) 148 Clear none 17:01 38 24 19 14 (NNE) 228 Clear none 18:01 38 21 18 24 (NNE) 137 Clear none 19:01 39 20 24 13 (NNE) 142 Clear none 20:01 39 20 20 21 (NNE) 135 Clear none 21:01 39 19 20 23 (NNE) 126 Clear none 22:01 38 21 24 358 (N) 157 Clear none 23:01 38 18 19 24 (NNE) 234 Clear none 00:01 37 18 31 23 (NNE) 80 clear none 01:01 36 19 33 27 (NNE) 102 clear none 02:01 36 18 26 41 (NE) 100 clear none 03:01 39 14 30 28 (NNE) 131 clear none 04:01 41 8 24 65 (ENE) 230 clear none 05:01 40 5 18 49 (NE) 181 clear none 06:01 42 8 13 44 (NE) 190 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
