Within ten minutes the humidity shot up over the closure limit, and we closed. Later in the half the humidity began backing off somewhat and after about 23:00 was technically below the closure limit. I elected to stay closed fearing that supercooled mirrors would frost over were we to re-open. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Sure enough, the pre-midnight drop in humidity turned out to be a false alarm. A more believable drop started about an hour later, and we got some time on the sky through varying high clouds. Winds rose and snow began to blow elsewhere about the sight, but we sneered at the swirling flakes from our superior height. Until the winds rose over the limit in their own right; then we closed. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 01:05 gfp 50(885) 267 65 -0.6/-2.2 359 7 R 1.17 01:10 NA2gdr -5224(32775) 268 64 -0.6/-2.2 12 6 R 1.32 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 28 21 12 326 (NW) 124 Clear none 17:01 27 22 13 303 (WNW) 106 Clear none 18:01 27 25 13 308 (NW) 278 Clear none 19:01 28 26 20 300 (WNW) 461 Clear none 20:01 28 27 13 286 (WNW) 661 Clear none 21:01 28 25 23 302 (WNW) 266 Clear none 22:01 28 24 11 343 (NNW) 152 Clear none 23:01 29 23 25 327 (NNW) 102 Clear none 00:01 29 23 9 297 (WNW) 99 cirrus none 01:01 31 20 9 317 (NW) 82 ptly cldy none 02:01 31 20 5 357 (N) 80 ptly cldy none 03:01 32 20 2 327 (NNW) 74 mstly cldy none 04:01 33 20 12 34 (NE) 119 mstly cldy none 05:01 33 20 29 357 (N) 134 mstly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
