Seeing was variable between 2-3 arc sec when I focused. We started in on the red rectangle around 21:20, after focusing the telescope and finding a guidestar. The guidestar was faint so I decided to switch to the clear guider filter as I had Don start his program.(It was R, which I moved it to just before I focused the guider). All my stars except the brightest went away. Not certain if a cloud had moved in front of us, I took a longer exposure with not much better results. I quickly (although at the time it seemed it took a while) figured out that the filter wheel was screwed up. I rotated back to the R filter and voila more stars than with the clear filter, something was amiss. Since we were already into the program I decided to just stick with what worked and figure out (re-home) the wheel later. The clouds started getting thicker around 04:00 and Don was having problems observing his targets. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:23 DISslit -50(952) 78 56 2.4/4.8 163 15 none 2.1 18:33 NA2gdr -367(30632) 75 58 2.4/4.3 166 14 R 1.9 21:09 DISslit -25(997) 46 34 2.9/2.7 203 16 none 1.8 21:16 NAgdr -1449(29550) 45 35 2.8/2.6 212 15 R? 1.3 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 42 18 8 191 (S) 0 Cirrus none 17:01 38 16 10 137 (SE) 0 Cirrus none 18:01 38 1 17 183 (S) 0 Cirrus none 19:01 38 5 18 179 (S) 0 Cirrus none 20:01 36 26 23 148 (SSE) 0 Cirrus none 21:01 37 1 23 202 (SSW) 0 Cirrus none 22:01 38 10 18 227 (SW) 1 Cirrus none 23:01 38 15 12 242 (WSW) 1 Cirrus none 00:01 38 15 13 214 (SW) 0 Cirrus none 01:01 38 17 16 227 (SW) 0 Cirrus none 02:01 38 17 14 211 (SSW) 2 Cirrus none 03:01 38 17 19 222 (SW) 0 Cirrus none 04:01 38 18 14 218 (SW) 0 Cirrus none 05:01 37 17 16 237 (WSW) 3 Cloudy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
