Kathy Jordan had already informed Craig and Mark who were each on their way in to investigate and fix the problem which turned out to be a leak in the AC unit coolant. They recharged the AC and returned temperatures to a safe level so we could operate. The rest of the first half went smoothly with the exception of 2 unusable 1800s exposures due to the return of noise seen on the DIS Red Camera. This time it affected observations of an extended object. This is the same "step pyramid" noise signature that has been intermittant for the past year. 2nd half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Second half had persistent high clouds of moderate thickness, but not enough to stop observing. Seeing was excellent, well below an arcsecond for long periods. There was one example of increased read-noise bands on the red side, but that form of noise is not as severe as the kind seen during first half. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- UW05 D I/U 19:45 20:45 step pyramid noise in red ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:04 dis-slit -80(1226) 151 76 10.3/12.5 246 15 - 1.39 19:06 NA2gdr -224(30776) 153 76 10.3/12.5 241 19 R 1.20 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 57 25 13 262 (W) 559 mstly cldy high cirrus 17:01 56 26 14 247 (WSW) 724 mstly cldy high cirrus 18:01 51 25 16 237 (WSW) 877 mstly cldy high cirrus 19:01 50 22 18 224 (SW) 1076 mstly cldy high cirrus 20:01 49 20 13 246 (WSW) 1005 mstly cldy high cirrus 21:01 50 19 16 250 (WSW) 826 mstly cldy high cirrus 22:01 49 17 14 265 (W) 733 mstly cldy high cirrus 23:01 50 23 20 273 (W) 1194 mstly cldy high cirrus 00:01 49 24 14 273 (W) 1167 ptly cldy none 01:01 50 23 13 272 (W) 1310 ptly cldy none 02:01 49 25 18 271 (W) 1427 ptly cldy none 03:01 49 25 15 272 (W) 1394 ptly cldy none 04:01 48 25 14 282 (WNW) 1390 ptly cldy none 05:01 48 25 13 269 (W) 1335 ptly cldy none 06:01 48 25 17 275 (W) 1379 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
