Mostly cirrus. The problem of the cover leaf at na1 was seen again tonight. This cover will not operate at high altitudes. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan The second half observer had repeated difficulties with Remark, encountering bugs I've never seen before. When he tried to use the "thumbwheel" function to adjust exposure times or positions, it behaved as if the mouse button were stuck down, with the numbers running endlessly and nothing else responding until Remark was killed and restarted. He was also unable to open the echelle Config and Guide windows with the normal buttons, but only from the top menu bar. He was using the correct version of Remark on a machine that has run it properly in the past, and his mouse worked normally for all functions except the thumbwheel. Eventually the observer worked out a method of observing that avoided the new bugs, and we didn't lose any further time despite some additional crashes. He also complained that the slitviewer filter wheel frequently refused to move, but this is a common problem, probably in hardware, encountered by many observers. Everything worked perfectly at this end. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NM04 E I/S 00:20 00:36 weird Remark behaviors ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:49 Echelle 31(225) 134 70 4.3/5.0 86 9 nd2 1.18 20:30 Echelle -20(111) -8 63 3.4/3.2 127 13 nd2 1.2 22:40 Echelle -49(90) 171 46 1.7/2.1 89 12 nd2 1.35 00:20 Echelle -9(100) 205 43 1.3/1.1 84 10 ND2 1.25 -------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 39 9 2 302 (WNW) 699 prtly cldy none 17:01 40 13 8 76 (ENE) 623 prtly cldy none 18:01 40 11 9 87 (E) 583 prtly cldy none 19:01 40 -1 11 145 (SE) 170 prtly cldy none 20:01 39 -5 11 138 (SE) 134 prtly cldy none 21:01 38 -6 15 124 (SE) 0 prtly cldy none 22:01 36 0 10 111 (ESE) 0 prtly cldy none 23:01 35 6 12 86 (E) 0 prtly cldy none 00:01 35 6 9 111 (ESE) 0 cirrus none 01:01 34 9 13 68 (ENE) 0 cirrus none 02:01 34 11 12 94 (E) 0 cirrus none 03:01 33 11 14 75 (ENE) 0 mstly clr none 04:01 34 11 12 89 (E) 211 clear none 05:01 35 10 13 83 (E) 167 clear none 06:01 34 8 13 88 (E) 145 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
