By 18:05 the clouds appeared to thin overhead and checking the radar images it looked safe to open. I focused the telescope and found the seeing to be around 1.3 arc sec, but my guess variable since the stars in the belt of Orion looked like Christmas lights the way they were twinkling. Network problems with NMSU, starting around 19:00, killed observations for our remote observer. After it causing problems on their end (locking up their remote Remark) they called us here. Network issued seemed to come back to life around 19:45. Dan Long resolved that the problem was down at Las Cruces and not onsite. The internet was flakey for the next 30 mins or so, I ran the guider from here and Julie acquired her targets. After things seemed to clear up, she took full control of the telescope again. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Second half was very peaceful, with light cirrus part of the time and clear skies the rest of the time. Seeing was mostly poor but briefly dipped below an arcsecond. A repeat of the engineering-night experiment with autocollimation went well, and it may be implemented regularly for spectroscopy in the near future. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- UW09 E T/S 19:10 19:55 Internet problems at NMSU ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:25 Echelle 29(223) 119 64 3.9/4.9 91 9 ND2 1.30 22:13 Echelle 21(243) 340 40 3.3/3.4 18 11 clear 1.26 -------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 44 16 0 110 (ESE) 271 Mst.
