With help from Craig and Jon D., we warmed the grating motors up sufficiently to calibrate. Opened at 18:20 after checking outside for obvious signs of blowing snow. DIS gave us no further trouble, and there was no other telescope weirdness attributable to the cold. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Second half was clear, with blowing snow near ground level which showed up significantly on the cloud camera but did not make it up to the level of the 3.5m. We took care not to move the DIS grating motors, and everything worked well. The only anomaly was that the DIS blue-side bias level was considerably lower than normal (35 instead of 75). That may have been cold-related since it only appeared within the last day or so. Since the bias appeared stable during the course of the night, we assumed it wasn't a problem, but it will be something to watch for the next few days. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:37 DISslit -100(316) 200 75 -10.0/-8.3 321 14 - 2.12 18:39 NA2gdr 1982(48982) 201 74 -9.8/-8.3 322 15 R 0.93 -------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 16 -9 1 264 (W) MstlyClr none 17:01 16 -12 11 328 (NNW) MstlyClr none 18:01 15 -15 15 322 (NW) MstlyClr none 19:01 15 -13 16 299 (WNW) Clear none 20:01 16 -12 15 303 (WNW) Clear none 21:01 16 -2 12 278 (W) Clear none 22:01 17 -3 17 297 (WNW) Clear none 23:01 17 2 17 299 (WNW) Clear none 00:01 18 -1 22 295 (WNW) Clear none 01:01 17 1 17 298 (WNW) clear none 02:01 18 -1 20 298 (WNW) clear none 03:01 18 -2 16 312 (NW) clear none 04:01 18 -2 8 315 (NW) clear none 05:01 17 -4 6 338 (NNW) clear none 06:01 18 -6 18 2 (N) clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
