I let Adler run a bit late so Mark H. could get in an additional target before I took control at a quarter past six. During target acquisition on my first object, clouds began to move in, but no precipitation threatened so I elected to remain open and take DIS cals. After the clouds cleared a little after 21:00, I reinitialized the telescope (I had parked it and issued an axis stop while doing cals). I commanded a slew toward the meridian and about 80 degrees up to check focus with DIS. I didn't notice initially that the slew had not been performed. A DIS slitviewer image showed trailed stars even though the axis status in TUI suggested that we were actually tracking all three axes. I tried an axis stop/axis init and a long slew to another part of the sky, without success. I tried pushing in and releasing a stop button and, not hearing the motors engage over the intercom, suspected a collision. Sure enough, upon inspection, I found the collision. Cleared it, reset the enclosure motor controller, and went on my merry way. Remark running on the Obs1 Mac crashed at 00:35 as an Echelle exposure was reading out. Luckily the file was properly written to disk, and only restarting Remark itself was necessary. Around 04:30 the pointing was suddenly off and not fixed well with a local pointing correction. Bad magnasensor readings in altitude, fixed with a couple of long slews. Otherwise quiet, calm, and photometric. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- UC04 D T/H 21:21 21:30 Tel-encl collision sensor tripped UC06 D T/H 04:15 04:35 Bad magnasensor readings ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:34 DISslit 150(1102) 195 78 2.7/3.1 245 17 - 2.21 18:40 NA2gdr 2910(49910) 202 78 2.6/2.9 245 18 R 1.29 00:01 Echelle 19(180) 189 46 1.7/1.5 261 17 ND1 1.34 -------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 41 11 18 248 (WSW) 117 MstlyClr none 17:01 41 3 11 269 (W) 41 MstlyClr none 18:01 36 11 16 240 (WSW) 91 MstlyClr none 19:01 37 13 22 241 (WSW) 117 MsltCldy none 20:01 37 13 14 252 (WSW) 97 MsltCldy none 21:01 37 13 16 269 (W) 133 MsltCldy none 22:01 36 19 15 267 (W) 146 MstlyClr none 23:01 36 20 14 263 (W) 131 Clear none 00:01 35 21 19 268 (W) 235 Clear none 01:01 37 18 24 264 (W) 142 Clear none 02:01 36 18 22 258 (WSW) 165 Clear none 03:01 35 20 13 271 (W) 155 Clear none 04:01 35 20 18 268 (W) 193 Clear none 05:01 34 20 19 266 (W) 166 Clear none 06:01 34 18 19 296 (WNW) 148 Clear none 07:01 33 16 16 271 (W) 162 Clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
