Dewpoint was very variable tonight causing us to close twice, once for 10 minutes and a second time for under 3 minutes. About the time the mirror covers would close the dewpoint depression would change wildly from under 2 degrees to 5 or 6 degrees. This repeated itself several times in the evening causing much frustration here in the 3.5m control room as well as with the Sloanies. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Thin high clouds started to move in after 23:00 and gradually thickened. Seeing remained fairly good, just over an arcsecond. We kept observing through clouds while the dewpoint steadily crept up, until it came unacceptably close to the temperature of our optics. Humidity remained just a bit too high for the remainder of the morning until after 05:00; by then the clouds were too thick to make good use of the remaining time. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:11 dis-slit -120(710) 163 77 -2.5/1.2 247 8 - 1.11 18:13 NA2gdr 525(47525) 165 78 -2.5/1.2 257 7 R 1.01 -------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 33 23 8 269 (W) 0 clear none 17:01 30 24 11 246 (WSW) 0 clear none 18:01 28 23 8 255 (WSW) 0 clear none 19:01 27 24 4 247 (WSW) 0 mstly cldy none 20:01 29 20 4 278 (W) 0 mstly cldy none 21:01 29 18 5 258 (WSW) 0 mstly cldy none 22:01 29 17 5 218 (SW) 0 clear none 23:01 28 20 5 267 (W) 0 ptly cldy none 00:01 28 19 6 267 (W) 0 ptly cldy none 01:01 28 21 6 265 (W) 0 ptly cldy none 02:01 27 23 6 269 (W) 0 ptly cldy none 03:01 27 22 5 276 (W) 0 mstly cldy none 04:01 26 23 4 265 (W) 0 mstly cldy none 05:01 27 23 6 267 (W) 0 mstly cldy none 06:01 28 21 10 276 (W) 0 mstly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
