Skies were overcast all day until when the snow stopped and the sun broke through for a short while. During checkout I turned on the roof heaters and popped up through the hatch to the roof. About an inch and a half of very fluffy snow lay on the parts of the roof I could see. The wind easily picked up and blew around the snow. After receiving information in road conditions, specifically that Sunspot Hwy was particularly treacherous driving, I consulted Russet by phone. We agreed that sky conditions would probably not resolve themselves tonight, and the snow on the roof and in the adjacent trees presented a health and safety issue for optics. I advised her not to make the drive in tonight, and got late instrument fills. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 24 24 7 348 (NNW) 0 MstlyCldy none 17:01 25 24 11 29 (NNE) 0 Overcast lt snow 18:01 24 22 9 62 (ENE) 0 Overcast lt snow 19:01 24 22 9 34 (NE) 0 MstlyCldy none 20:01 24 20 20 70 (ENE) 0 MstlyCldy none 21:01 23 19 7 56 (NE) 0 MstlyCldy none 22:01 23 18 19 53 (NE) 0 MstlyCldy none 23:01 22 19 11 43 (NE) 0 MstlyCldy none 00:01 22 18 12 30 (NNE) 0 MstlyCldy none 01:01 22 18 5 23 (NNE) 0 MstlyCldy none 02:01 23 17 4 3 (N) 0 MstlyCldy none 03:01 23 16 4 26 (NNE) 0 MstlyCldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
