Shortly thereafter, the humidity crossed the closure limit and we were alerted to increasing cloud cover and the presence of virga along the ridgeline to our north, so I closed shortly after 19:00 but left fans on to cool. The clouds started to dissipate, accompanied by considerably lower humidity, toward 21:00 so I opened again. Given that seeing was decent, I ran the 2237 Lens program. Don then carried out Echelle observations until a little past 03:00, when he handed over to me for the remainder of the night. I got two 1/2 hour exposures on a recent bright supernova with the echelle before switching over to DIS for the rest of the night's observations. While focusing DIS, my slews were suddenly rejected by the TCC with the comment "error writing 'stdout': no space left on device" in the MC. I could command track/mount slews but neither Remark nor MC slews, nor could I talk to the instruments. A call to Craig helped diagnose and fix the problem; disk space allocated to logging on tycho had indeed filled up. He cleared space and I carried on. The guider choked shortly thereafter; a reset fixed that problem. The rest of the night was quiet. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- UC04 D T/S 03:40 03:55 tycho disk full, slews rejected ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:14 SPIcam -50(1127) 187 76 11.2/11.7 1 8 r' 0.79 21:25 NA2gdr 0(49000) 130 49 11.6/11.6 349 7 R 1.13 22:29 DISslit -200(951) 179 74 10.8/11.2 354 7 - 0.91 22:36 Echelle 63(108) 180 79 10.9/11.2 352 9 ND1 0.86 02:12 Echelle 0(233) 155 28 11.9/11.3 13 14 clear 1.42 04:03 DISslit 150(959) 252 71 11.4/11.3 358 11 - 0.86 04:10 NA2gdr 0(41000) 254 70 11.2/11.2 25 11 R 0.65 04:50 NA2gdr 6000(47000) 214 64 11.1/11.1 13 17 R 0.77 -------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 51 44 12 66 (ENE) 232 PtlyCldy none 17:01 59 48 10 294 (WNW) 275 PtlyCldy none 18:01 53 46 7 318 (NW) 557 PtlyCldy none 19:01 51 47 5 316 (NW) 666 PtlyCldy none 20:01 53 39 4 6 (N) 348 PtlyCldy none 21:01 53 39 9 1 (N) 290 MstlyClr none 22:01 53 40 8 21 (NNE) 361 Clear none 23:01 52 43 13 7 (N) 639 Clear none 00:01 52 43 10 1 (N) 631 Clear none 01:01 52 43 11 11 (N) 599 Clear none 02:01 53 43 13 7 (N) 728 Clear none 03:01 54 41 13 30 (NNE) 702 Clear none 04:01 52 43 8 17 (NNE) 650 Clear none 05:01 52 43 14 15 (NNE) 624 Clear none 06:01 52 42 18 21 (NNE) 621 Clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
