The weather was marvelous so the observer did not use DIS at all. Don did point out some image elongation as seen in the echelle slitviewer. I noted that the semimajor axis was well correlated with the Altitude. It may have just been wind shake (12 mph windspeed, telescope was 160 degrees oblique to wind direction). I copied some of the images to a place that day staff could look at them and filed a problem report. There was no evidence on the dataq that this was a PMSS problem and the altitude tachometers were not showing any problem. There was a small wiggle in the motor command voltages but this didnt seem abnormal. At 00:15 the telescope was turned over to me for the Lens monitoring project. After an instrument change (to spicam) and 2 focus runs, I barely had 15 minutes on 2237 before I had to do an instrument change for the second half. I then switched to Grim for the second half. I had some difficulties getting a good focus but after 30 minutes we were off looking at Mars. The first few images showed a very unusual reflection that appears in f/5 mode but must be out of the FOV in f/20. After aquiring some data on Mars, J.Barentine logged on remotely to see how things were going. He said the reflection was a noted problem from a year ago that appears only for very bright objects and only certain rotation angles. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:27 Echelle 32(222) 209 57 12.8/13.3 303 14 nd3 0.80 22:11 Echelle 67(277) 333 45 13.1/12.8 276 9 nd3 1.08 22:15 Echelle 77(288) 333 45 13.1/12.9 272 7 nd3 1.18 00:44 SPIcam 170(1414) 194 60 12.9/12.6 274 12 r' 0.9 01:45 GrIm2(f/20) 150(1101) 150 75 12.2/12.4 310 10 Ks 1.22 -------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 59 27 18 302 (WNW) 128 clear none 17:01 58 30 4 278 (W) 101 clear none 18:01 57 30 9 296 (WNW) 109 clear none 19:01 55 28 12 321 (NW) 129 clear none 20:01 55 24 13 299 (WNW) 115 clear none 21:01 55 26 13 302 (WNW) 120 clear none 22:01 55 27 10 272 (W) 162 clear none 23:01 56 24 13 274 (W) 199 clear none 00:01 56 23 14 271 (W) 202 clear none 01:01 55 23 9 276 (W) 246 clear none 02:01 55 24 12 310 (NW) 218 clear none 03:01 53 25 8 13 (NNE) 228 clear none 04:01 52 27 13 16 (NNE) 123 clear none 05:01 53 30 17 17 (NNE) 133 clear none 06:01 54 26 22 13 (NNE) 68 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
