Tested the pointing model of 9/1 with the Echelle; the model improved Echelle pointing and so it was implemented. Clouds rolled in around 21:00 and progressively thickened. Humidity went over the limit at about 22:30. The only task that could be done with the dome closed was DIS focus/collimation. I retrieved Russet's email with the instructions passed to her from Jeff Morgan, but they are not clear enough about how to get to the actuators controlling the tilt and piston of the CCD. Fearing damage to the instrument if I were to proceed, I decided not to pursue the task. The rain sensor tripped at 23:30 when it began sprinkling. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: W.Ketzeback Rain continued until 03:00. Cloud cover was still broken but it looked like it would improve so I set up to do throughput measurements with DIS. About 04:00 the skies became photometric and I was able to get some data. The details will be sent to J.Holtzman. Clouds returned shortly after twilight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:30 Echelle 39(240) -59 72 13.7/14.5 269 24 ND1 1.32 20:48 Echelle 55(251) 299 67 13.6/14.2 274 24 ND1 1.31 ** 04:23 dis-slit -25(774) 184 63 9.3/10.6 15 13 - 1.07 ** Note: Second focus measurement taken after pointing model was implemented. -------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 60 45 15 267 (W) 1046 MstlyCldy none 17:01 59 46 21 266 (W) 601 MstlyCldy none 18:01 58 44 17 276 (W) 423 MstlyCldy none 19:01 58 43 17 262 (W) 407 PtlyCldy none 20:01 58 43 13 274 (W) 461 PtlyCldy none 21:01 56 44 21 269 (W) 717 MstlyClr none 22:01 55 45 17 275 (W) 437 MstlyCldy none 23:01 51 48 13 309 (NW) 167 MstlyCldy none 00:01 52 47 4 17 (NNE) 162 MstlyCldy lt rain 01:01 51 45 13 292 (WNW) 166 Cloudy lt rain 02:01 47 45 11 30 (NNE) 168 Cloudy rain 03:01 49 41 10 328 (NNW) 98 mstly cldy none 04:01 49 43 10 4 (N) 171 clear none 05:01 49 42 6 1 (N) 281 clear none 06:01 50 38 10 24 (NNE) 679 prtly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
