When we opened with a warmish dome and an east wind, seeing was quite poor -- no big surprise there. Around midnight, the wind shifted to the west and the temperature warmed, but it took a little longer for the seeing to settle down; eventually it got down to 0.6 arcsec during second half. The sky was mostly clear for long periods, with a few waves of cirrus passing through. During first half, there were divers weirdnesses -- the remote observer reported trouble typing in the message window while a full-frame slitviewer image was transferring (possibly due to limited memory on the PU observing Mac). I had no trouble typing messages, but did notice a delay after sending them. Then the observer had one large, incorrect shift+click offset (made on a full frame with autoguide on) and some slitviewer exposures that were not the length he had requested. I decided three times was a conspiracy, so I rebooted the MC before we got set up on a very faint target. After that, everything worked well enough. Second half went very smoothly, with excellent seeing (which started shortly after we focused, so it doesn't show up in the focus log). The recently installed cat-eye mask was a great help with this program, which included several fields with bright stars near the objects of interest. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- PU02 E T/S 23:14 23:19 MC weirdness, restarted ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:55 Echelle -169(266) 130 49 17.0/19.9 71 17 ND2 1.9 22:34 Echelle -167(185) 143 54 16.2/18.4 84 14 ND2 2.1 01:26 SPIcam -50(1327) 195 56 17.1/16.8 264 10 r' 1.40 01:29 NA2gdr 2000(51000) 197 56 17.1/16.9 262 8 R 1.3 -------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 74 39 5 235 (SW) 404 ptly cldy none 17:01 74 39 0 342 (NNW) 429 ptly cldy none 18:01 72 38 0 160 (SSE) 420 ptly cldy none 19:01 70 34 5 100 (E) 400 ptly cldy none 20:01 67 35 10 83 (E) 406 cirrus none 21:01 65 35 13 83 (E) 377 cirrus none 22:01 62 37 16 77 (ENE) 412 mstly clr none 23:01 61 37 10 84 (E) 381 mstly clr none 00:01 65 36 0 6 (N) 509 cirrus none 01:01 63 36 9 330 (NNW) 557 cirrus none 02:01 62 37 5 266 (W) 610 cirrus none 03:01 62 36 5 296 (WNW) 945 mstly clr none 04:01 63 34 8 349 (NNW) 1673 clear none 05:01 64 33 11 18 (NNE) 1461 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
