These cleared out by 21:30 to nice photmetric skies and reasonable seeing conditions. Shortly into the night the observer requested I do a local pointing correction so he didnt have to image the full guider frame and then go back to a sunbframe. The pointing correction seemed to go well but a combination of clouds and perhaps poor coordinates for the next slew resulted in no object in the following frame. I experimented with several more pointing corrections in the area but there still was not star. As we were scratching our heads trying to figure out what was wrong the telescope axes quite tracking because the track/slew buffer emptied due to a late update. I corrected this by reinitalizing the drives and we slewed to a new object. The observer then struggled with his REMARK echelle slitview guider interface. I guided for him on one object before he straightened out his troubles. This did cause a great deal of lost time but I could only count downtime for the pointing and axis troubles. Sorry George. Second half went well with moderate seeing. At 03:25 we had a major dust event. We stayed closed for the rest of the morning. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- UW09 E T/U 21:40 22:05 Echpoint gave in strange results UW09 E T/S 22:12 22:22 Axes halted due to timing error ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:57 Echelle -220(-34) 146 67 12.8/15.4 283 9 clear 1.04 23:45 Echelle 12(150) 61 40 13.1/12.7 271 14 nd1 1.3 01:07 GrIm2(f/5) 50(1025) 48 41 12.8/12.4 293 13 H 1.08 01:09 NA2gdr -747(47252) 48 41 12.8/12.4 276 12 R 1.11 Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 17:01 51 40 9 304 (NW) 9925 cloudy lt.rain 18:01 54 40 15 6 (N) 5678 cloudy lt.rain 19:01 56 38 6 354 (N) 3337 mstly cldy none 20:01 57 34 2 301 (WNW) 1254 prtly cldy none 21:01 55 34 9 299 (WNW) 1319 prtly cldy none 22:01 54 34 12 288 (WNW) 1242 clear none 23:01 55 33 17 277 (W) 1141 clear none 00:01 55 33 9 273 (W) 914 clear none 01:01 55 33 16 291 (WNW) 1018 clear none 02:01 54 34 12 288 (WNW) 1178 clear none 03:01 51 38 9 224 (SW) 2861 clear dust 04:01 50 39 7 201 (SSW) 3720 clear dust 05:01 50 38 10 239 (WSW) 3527 clear dust 06:01 50 38 8 260 (W) 2785 clear dust Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
