When we got on the sky, there were several delays: an apparent pointing problem (actually coordinates with the wrong epoch), a strange blotch on the new 5" slit (I removed the slit wheel, found no obstruction, decided it was just a patch of lower reflectivity due to uneven polishing), and then an apparent problem moving the re-seated slit wheel (which I later realized was probably due to my looking at the wrong images when we tried to test the motion). Once we focused, it was apparent that seeing was not quite so great as last night, but it was fairly good for the first few hours of the evening, then started to puff up to 2 arcseconds around 2300. Shortly after the program change, a dust spike forced us to close and didn't come down again until morning twilight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- UW02 D I/H 21:19 21:25 blotch on 5" slit ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:07 DISslit -175(1081) 83 69 17.4/20.3 199 13 - 1.3 21:16 NA2gdr 4532(45532) 83 71 17.4/20.2 202 15 clear 0.9 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 76 20 20 232 (SW) 529 clear none 17:01 77 18 27 227 (SW) 425 clear none 18:01 75 20 24 239 (WSW) 604 clear none 19:01 69 19 16 232 (SW) 1097 clear none 20:01 66 18 17 232 (SW) 1465 clear none 21:01 63 18 16 211 (SSW) 1543 clear none 22:01 65 22 16 204 (SSW) 952 clear none 23:01 64 22 17 196 (SSW) 859 mstly clr none 00:01 64 20 19 191 (S) 991 mstly clr none 01:01 61 30 16 189 (S) 1106 mstly clr none 02:01 57 31 12 164 (SSE) 12447 mstly clr none 03:01 54 31 14 151 (SSE) 6843 mstly clr none 04:01 56 31 10 180 (S) 7599 mstly clr none 05:01 55 24 7 182 (S) 2429 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
