The rain sensor tripped at about 21:30, at which point we closed the cloud camera. Opened the camera again about an hour and a half later, but then it got rained on around 00:20. Another break, and rain again at 02:15. It cleared again and seemed stable toward 03:00, so we opened shortly after that. In short order it appeared that the GFP shutter had stuck open (again.... arrgh), so it was back to the "I'll steer, you work the gas and brakes" method of opening and closing the NA2 eyelid manually. At about 04:10, I got a double honk from Remark and the message that all three telescope axes had halted suddenly and without warning. Russet was logged in from home at the time and helped try to diagnose the problem. An axis init followed by having the observers re-slew to their target fixed the problem, at the expense of losing the offsets they made to get their star under the GFP coronagraph wedge. There seemss to have been a timing problem given that a 5 second guider image appeared to have read out 0.3 s after beginning. See PR 2003084 for a full description by Russet. We ran into twilight for sky flats. The GFP shutter spontaneously came back to life around 05:30. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- DD03 F I/H --:-- --:-- GFP shutter stuck (no time loss) DD03 F T/S 03:50 04:20 TCC stopped tracking on long exp. ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 03:36 NA2gdr 785(48785) 202 32 16.8/16.0 268 5 R 1.02 03:39 gfp 0(1360) 203 32 16.7/16.0 273 7 6724 1.06 --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 70 32 1 315 (NW) 804 MstlyClr none 17:01 77 34 19 265 (W) 726 MstlyClr none 18:01 71 31 13 268 (W) 867 PtlyCldy none 19:01 70 32 5 270 (W) 1070 MstlyCldy none 20:01 67 32 9 232 (SW) 1517 MstlyCldy none 21:01 67 32 11 217 (SW) 1578 MstlyCldy none 22:01 60 36 19 68 (ENE) 716 MstlyCldy none 23:01 58 38 15 81 (E) 734 MstlyCldy none 00:01 59 37 14 78 (ENE) 792 MstlyCldy none 01:01 60 35 5 92 (E) 896 MstlyCldy none 02:01 61 33 5 270 (W) 1516 MstlyClr none 03:01 62 32 7 222 (SW) 1216 MstlyClr none 04:01 62 32 6 262 (W) 1087 MstlyClr none 05:01 62 32 7 252 (WSW) 1092 MstlyClr none 06:01 59 33 8 220 (SW) 1118 MstlyClr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
