Barentine Tonight I waited until just before sunset to open to make sure that the downward trend of dust and wind was real. Don used some of the twilight time to do further tests of the new Echelle slitviewer. We then switched over to DIS at 21:10 and focused. The remainder of the half was quiet with good seeing (right around one arcsecond unfiltered). We switched over to GRIM at 01:00. Sailing was generally smooth with the exception of getting certain GRIM scripts up and running. At one point the script had to be killed and restarted; the instrument did not respond to grimabort so I restarted the GRIM ICC and the hub to clear the script. This, however, caused me to lose the focus information stored in nfocus. Seeing started off around an arcsecond in the visible, but by the end of the night was closer to 1.5-2 arcsec in the near-IR. We were able to push well into twilight because of the background suppression in GRIM's narrowband IR filters. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:18 DISslit -100(622) 231 82 8.9/8.8 248 14 - 0.96 21:22 NA2gdr 65(41065) 235 81 8.8/8.9 243 15 R 0.86 01:31 GrIm2(f/5) 75(894) 165 30 8.4/8.2 241 16 J 0.99 03:57 GrIm2(f/5) 100(820) 33 36 6.6/6.5 237 19 J 1.58 (lost due to restarting the MC) --------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 52 11 28 240 (WSW) 1515 Clear none 17:01 54 10 28 244 (WSW) 1584 Clear none 18:01 52 8 22 256 (WSW) 1537 Clear none 19:01 51 10 19 261 (W) 1646 Clear none 20:01 47 9 24 247 (WSW) 1268 Clear none 21:01 47 9 17 238 (WSW) 1271 Clear none 22:01 48 9 16 248 (WSW) 1222 Clear none 23:01 49 7 24 225 (SW) 1134 Clear none 00:01 49 7 18 235 (SW) 1121 Clear none 01:01 48 6 18 257 (WSW) 1114 Clear none 02:01 46 6 14 251 (WSW) 1114 Clear none 03:01 45 8 18 227 (SW) 1082 Clear none 04:01 44 9 17 238 (WSW) 1116 Clear none 05:01 43 10 17 248 (WSW) 1189 Clear none 06:01 42 10 16 262 (W) 1346 Clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
